Remember as a kid when everyone asked you “what do you want to be when you grew up”? Everyone had their own answers, firefighter, doctor, vet, olympian; mine, singer. We all longed for the day when we finally earned that title, yet very few have the opportunity to really chase their dream. Thanks to my amazing support system I get the chance.
In 3rd grade I got a guitar for my birthday– I loved singing and so desperately wanted to play the guitar. My mom signed me up for lessons and I started right away. I was no prodigy, since I never practiced. Immediately, my teacher noticed I always sang along to the songs I wanted to learn as he played them on YouTube. One of my core memories is when I walked out of my first 30 minute sessions to another music teachers in the building asking if I was the one singing. Eventually, it got to a point where my mom would ask what I was working on for guitar and I just told her we sang the whole time. As I started middle school and high school, I had the opportunities to sing in choir for a few years, do a few gigs, and try out for all-region choir. My love for singing kept growing the more experience I got and I dreamed of recording music.
Just as the little kid who told everyone she’d become a singer, I continued to chase my dream of recording music. While my music journey started years prior, I told my mom I wanted to share my music with the world at 16 years old. Then, I could still have my childhood and would be ready to go wherever music takes me. Luckily, my mom remembered the conversation and gave me the opportunity to go record my first ever EP (extended play) on my 16th birthday and I have never been happier. Like many others, I’ve had to overcome obstacles, yet music has remained a constant and my one true passion since I can even remember. Please, join me, as I follow my dreams and shoot for the stars.
